Welcome to Teach VI History
On this website, TeachVIHistory.com, you will discover a collection of classroom activities related to US Virgin Islands history. The activities are built around digitized primary sources from archive, library and museum collections about the Danish West Indies and the US Virgin Islands. Each activity includes brief background information, suggested teaching instructions, primary source analysis tools and discussion prompts. The activities encourage a research-based, conversation approach to exploring US Virgin Islands history. Asking students to explore primary source material turns them into the historian – it gives them an active role in analyzing history, encourages interpretive skills, and helps foster higher order thinking. Students will also learn about the types of primary sources that are available related to the US Virgin Islands, who created the material, and where they are kept.
